We are learning the basics of multiplication... Students must understand that multiplication is really addition.
for example 2X3 is really 2+2+2 or 3+3.... grouping... They should also understand the fact family.. of 2x3=6 and 3X2= 6 and 6 divided by 3=2 and 6 divided by 2=3
If you child is out ill please send in a note with the child or call the office.
I have been giving different children different homework. If your child's homework has more or less than another child in our room, it is supposed to be like that.
Please briefly look over the homework before it is brought to school. There are careless errors and sometimes it is obvious that the directions were not read. Some kids are not even completing the writing section on the white lined paper. Don't allow them to turn in 2 sentence stories.
Six week notices are being sent home... If your child gets one, please don't be alarmed. You don't need a conference it has only been 19 days of school. Please go over with your child what area they need to improve.
Has your child:
1.) Turned in a reading log
2.) Completed their weekly journal
3.) Worked on clever.com
4.) Previewed the current news on www.scholastic.com/sn2
5.) Gone to the local library checking out a variety of books to read
All these things I know take time, but is imperative to their success this year.
HAVE YOU DONATED TO FAB YET?
DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE A FAIRBURN SHIRT TO WEAR ON FRIDAYS?
DOES YOUR CHILD KNOW WHAT HE/SHE WILL WEAR IN THE PARADE?
Last year my class won spirit day 4 Fridays in a row.
My class last year also got a pizza party because we had 100 percent in FAB donations FIRST!
I want to be that class who ROCKS WHERE WE CAN:)
Thank you for your support in advance!
Your child may need the extra boost that you can give him/her when they get home.
A lot of praise and encouragement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you to all the students who turn their projects in EARLY!!! AMAZING WORK TOO!!
9-7-18 Please.... Please have your child read on clever.com..Have them write a three sentence or more review of the book they read. The site is a huge resource to your child. Also visit www.scholastic.com to preview our September articles.. (It would be helpful for your child to see what is happening in our world currently) There are videos and vocabulary to learn.
Some students took the reading assessment today and didn't read the story very closely and missed the questions at the end of the magazine article.
Let them go to planetbravo and practice typing on the lessons that were in computer lab September 6th.
I have noticed that many have not checked into clever.com
Your child needs to read, read, read....
Encourage them to write me a message and also do a Book Review once a week.
We will also be using the scholastic magazine website weekly. www.scholastic.com/sn2
Log in with password:(Your child knows this)
We start the Benchmark Advance Language Arts series on September 11th so the kids should start looking over the spelling, grammar, and vocabulary on the left tab. Spelling Pre-test will be on Mondays and Tests and assessments given on Fridays.
Please look over homework before it comes back to school. Some students are not reading the directions carefully and are making careless errors.
Please fill out reading log and have your child turn in their writing journals on Fridays.
(Don't allow your child to write 3 word sentences.. they will not progress doing this)
Please encourage your child not to take home their library book... It seems to get lost and the book costs 20.00.
8-22-18 Today our class was in the computer lab browsing our class website.... Please review the website with your child... so it is a resource for them as well!

WEAR YOUR FAIRBURN SHIRT EVERY FRIDAY SO WE CAN WIN THE TROPHY (LAST YEAR WE WON 4 WEEKS IN A ROW)
Send back the Emergency Information Form (except for Miles Wilson, and Dane already turned theirs in)
Today I gave a homework folder that needs to come back daily.
In has two projects attached: The Wilfred Gordon paper and the Star is born. They are not due for a while, but kids can turn it in early and get it out of the way. Especially since I am not giving homework till next week. I loved how a child screamed out, " I can do that tonight." That is the SPIRIT!
THE RED HOME JOURNAL HAS JOURNAL PROMPTS ON THE FIRST PAGE IF YOUR CHILD CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING TO WRITE ABOUT... TRY NOT TO USE ANY OF THEM BECAUSE THEY CAN WRITE ABOUT THEIR DAY AT SCHOOL OR ABOUT SOCCER PRACTICE.
Homework this week
Fill in reading log daily and do a journal writing (Journals will be check on Fridays) Do not correct the journals, just give them reminders about the capital letters and omission of periods. Remind them not to use words: awesome, good, great, cool, like, love, and super.
WE NEED DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS.
Practice organizing ideas with your child. Today When asked what they did over their summer break.. some kids said they didn't do anything over vacation. Help them tell a story and organize their thoughts.. On Fridays after lunch we have sharing time. They can tell a story or share an object that they are excited about.
Please have your child read aloud you at least three times a week for at least 10 min. (even from another room to pick up the volume)
Listen to see if they run through the periods or read a question or exclamation sentence correctly.
Thank you for your support!
