Other fun things:
Take an art or dance class
Take a hike in the Palisades
Get a plastic model from Michaels (ex: plane, car, ship, or helicopter)
Look over Math CD Look through the topics of Chapter 4.
School is out at 12:29 on Monday, Wed, Thurs., and Friday due to parent conferences... (please make arrangements for your child)
Work on Book Report due on Dec 11th
Students need to let me know what animal they are doing for their project. (This is so we don't have multiple presentations on dolphins.) Due by November 30th..
Start Animal Project: 1st page What I know about my animal before starting my research.
Work on regrouping subtraction and addition problems... Examples 34-7 or 56+8
Students keep thinking 4-7 is 3 :( in 34-7. They must borrow
Your child must also be aware that after borrowing from the 3 tens, that the tens column is now 2 tens because the ones column needed 1 ten to subtract 7 ones.
If those are easy then practice problems like (34-17 and 56+18)
Gather stuff in a box (things that your child no longer wants or needs) to sell in our Microsociety Dec. 1st.
Reminder Star is Born is due next week Oct. 21st (Also have your child wear College attire)
Pictures taped or glue around the Star is Born paper on poster board.
October 30th is the multicultural project
A two part project
Part 1. Family history interview to be presented to the class
(Instructions and sample interview questions were given on back to school morning.
Part 2. is the multicultural project
directions on the left tab
Please keep track on where we are on the Math Series... CD of the book was sent home. We will be completing Chapter 3 soon. Review the concepts especially the problems like: 54-8 or
18 + 26
is 18 + 2 + 24
20 + 24 = 44
They have to know that 18 is borrowing 2 from the 26 to make the problem easier to add
and of course they also need to be able to add like we learned in school as well
Please make sure your child reads the directions carefully on their assignments.
(example write a sentence, underline the subject, give definitions for, use your spelling words for)
Many students are not reading directions carefully and having to do work over again:(
Thank you in advance for your patience and support
Wednesday November 11th Veteran's Day.....
Treasures final on Friday October 2nd
Please make vocabulary flash cards if you haven't already of the words for Unit 1. (These cards were part of weekly homework)
You can also use the packet of words that I sent home on Friday September 25th and cut them out and write the definitions on the back of each word.
Also sent home on Friday was all the lessons we have had in the last five weeks in grammar.
No worries of the pages that were unfinished, but make sure your child understands the concepts.
Please make sure they know things like where quotation marks go, where commas are written, what a subject of a sentence is or predicate of a sentence is. (all the grammar subjects are listed in the tab to the left) and the students have been quizzed on them every Friday.
Green group will only have a final on the Blue words so only study the Blue list please.
Students will also be quizzed on their reading fluency as well, so if have your child practice reading aloud to you daily for one minute.
The final has about ten questions in grammar
Ten questions in spelling section including 40 of the 75 spelling words.
Ten questions in vocabulary words using all 25 words in some way.
The rest of the questions are in comprehension.
50 questions in total
Please fill out reading logs that are due on Fridays..
Don't forget about book report due on Wednesday Sept. 30th
Thanks to all the parents who have been volunteering thus far. Your time is very much appreciated.
Please check out Mr. Chris on Fairburn Website Resources.
It has all the programs we do in computer lab. (The students know how to use them)
Work on book report that is due September 30, 2015
Practice two step word problems... making them and solving them
Example: Steve has 5 ducks and Jenny gives him 4 ducks. 2 ducks fly away. How many ducks does Steve have?
Preview Spelling and Vocabulary ( an easy way to practice is by letting your child play the games online in McMillan Mcgraw Hill)
It is obvious when a child hasn't studied. Especially when a child can't remember where a comma goes in a greeting of a letter or between a city and state. Please constantly review these concepts because they will come up in their final in two weeks.
Also work on writing complete sentences with subjects and predicates. Many students are having issues with grammar in their writing.
If you ever need advice on anything our room mother knows everything
Please check out all the new math games TAB ON THE LEFT BOTTOM TAB
Math game to try tap on this ADDITION FACTS subtraction/multiplication/ and division

Please check this site tab at least once a week
Don't get confused by the Monday's dictation. All the students need to practice writing what is heard by the teacher. (The blue group words are in the sentences provided every Monday)
I am sure by now you have discussed with your child the importance of spelling and listening.
Thanks in advance:)
Your child might be in the green group, but is responsible for all the blue group words as well. The blue group words are included on the Friday assessment and the Green group words are given separately on a 4" by 8 1/2 piece of paper.
firstname.lastname@example.org has volunteered to be our Room Mother: if you have any questions please contact her.
Please return the Student emergency information form (This is extremely important)
Please fill out reading log (It is vital to their reading speed)
Many parents have said their printer at home is not working... (The good news is that I make copies for you) These handouts for Language Arts are typically given on Mondays and Tuesdays for homework.) These language concepts are assessed on Fridays.
Start working on Projects: First simple one is just objects in a bag (follow instructions please in the projects tab)
No need to find the book I read to them... It was just a prompt to have them find items:)
TURN THESE PAPERS IN
Today your child was given a notice to fill out for the Fairburn Student Directory. This needs to come in as soon as possible if you want to be in the book. (Any questions call Cynthia Brewer)

Things to focus on:
Preview the homework tab and schedule so they know what is expected of them weekly.
Print out homework schedule and put it on your fridge... It could get confusing.
Next week hopefully you will get the
Library Release form (we can't check out a book without this)
Internet Release form (we can't go online in the computer lab without this)
Find out on Friday what spelling group they are in GREEN or Blue
OFF TOPIC BUT FYI:::::Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge Project.. You don't need to get the book or read the book ( I will read it to the class this week)... It is just a stepping stone to the bag of things your child will share with all of us..
