Adventure Game Making
Things to know:
We will start this board on May 6th in class AND complete at home. If you want to start sooner that would be great.
-Must include a start and a finish.
-Don't make it too confusing. (30 squares minimum- all 1" by 1")
Cards are fun to use like in SORRY.
If use cards you don't need dice... (I also can provide dice)
Make creative pieces (characters from your book), but not too big (3 centimeters by 3 cm. perhaps)
MUST INCLUDE DETAILS FROM THE BOOK YOU ARE READING THIS MONTH.
Don't include slides or ladders because these cause the game to end to quickly
Don't make up facts
All details must prove that you have read the book
You must includeyour name, the book title and author on the board
Attach directions for the game on the back (objectives and rules)
GAME MUST BE EASY TO FOLLOW AND UNDERSTAND (start space-beginning of book) game should flow from the start of your book to the end of the book (finish line-ending)
add funny spaces like move back 2 spaces, lose a turn, go to the castle to rest, etc.
Start your gameboard project by making a list on index cards of details or events that have happened in your book.
The background of the posterboard gameboard should be an illustration of some sort that represents the setting of the story.

Lunchtime Necessities
Please remind your child how important it is to clean their hands before eating. We play for 22 min. at lunch recess and then eat the second half of lunch. (Put a little bottle of purell or travel size wipes in their lunch)Some student's hands have been found filthy when I pick them up from the lunch area. If buying a lunch please put money on their accounts with the Cafeteria Manager. Students will also have to stand in alphabetical order after the first bell after lunch recess with our class lunch line.
Homework Packets
Homework Packets All Subjects Please look through their work before it gets sent in daily. Many students don't even read the directions and have to do the work over. If you have time to correct the work with them please leave "X"s where they missed a problem so concept can be addressed at school. Homework schedule is listed on the tab to the left.
Quiz your children on incorrect work
Quiz your children on any incorrect work. In all subject areas I go over incorrect work with your children, though retention of information can always be a factor. Please quiz your child on work they missed on their papers that go home. We have a math quiz about every 8 days. First quiz on Topic 1 will I think be on August 27th
Computer Lab
Computer Lab Exercises All Subjects Ask your child about computer lab and Mr. Chris. You can tap on the link for computer lessons in the interactive links tab on the left bar. Click on Computer Lessons. Then(2nd grade) Your child doesn't need any help.
Journal Writing
Journals: (One or more) Treasures Journal Prompt is mandatory (in Spelling and Vocabulary Tab on the leftside of this page ) Please have your child bring in journals on Fridays with homework. I need to see that they are practicing writing topics with the Treasures theme. If you have time go over the content of the assignment. This is an actual Treasures Unit assignment. (NOT A FREE WRITING WITHOUT CONVENTIONS)
For personal journals or diaries:
Please don't correct their spelling in their personal journals. This is their own private journal. (Correcting it may cause anxiety due to all the criticism that a parent might make.) Just eyeball the page and date to make sure it has been done, but if your child is willing to share with you that is fantastic.
Any spiral notebook will do, even a small diary.(one has been provided with prompts to use if necessary)
Make sure they are all dated!
